Service Dog –The role of a service dog is to assist one person with a particular type of medical disability. Their job is to assist people with tasks they can’t manage alone. The training needs to be precise – these dogs must perform tasks and respond to commands reliably, every time they’re needed. It’s a crucial process to make sure they can consistently support individuals who rely on their help. Some examples of tasks are DPT (deep pressure therapy), retrieving items, mobility support, crowd control, and assist on public access. These are the only type of working dogs allowed in public access, such as grocery stores, hair salons, movie theaters, restaurants, malls, doctors’ offices, place of employment, educational institutions, or even state and government facilities.

Emotional Support Dog- Emotional support dogs provide comfort and companionship to individuals with emotional or mental conditions. They can help reduce anxiety and stress, alleviate depression, cope with trauma, and give a sense of security. These dogs must have basic and advanced obedience, along with manners and other behaviors that will make public access appropriate. They do not have public access and are only allowed in apartments, hotels, and certain airlines. They do not have any special training to perform tasks that assist people with medical disabilities.

Therapy Dog- Therapy dogs work as teams and must have perfect obedience to work in certain settings. They undergo very specific training to ensure they can respond appropriately to a variety of situations and interact safely with diverse groups of people. Therapy dogs are selected for their calm temperament, friendliness, and ability to handle various environments. Therapy dogs provide people with therapeutic contact in a clinical setting like schools, hospital/ nursing homes, and natural disaster relief.
